Makeup Monday ~ Mirabella

For my very first Makeup Monday, I’m going to show you my first REAL makeup purchase! My Mirabella eyeshadow pallet.

I am the girliest tomboy you will ever meet! As a teenager, I dressed all in black, wore no makeup and kept my long hair back in a ponytail. Let’s not forget the giant-sized glasses. I wasn’t goth, or emo, but I simply didn’t have an eye for clothes or makeup at all. I dressed in black because I didn’t have to worry about how to match it and I didn’t venture near the makeup counter because I had no clue how to put it on.

When I entered the work force, my job required me to be at the office by seven a.m. There was no way I was going to add any extra time to my routine just to put on makeup, that I had no idea how to apply anyway.

Once I was able to turn to writing as a full time career, I finally had the time to do my makeup and hair. My awesome sister-in-law, Lisa Croezen-Kauk of Pure Hair Studio in Kitchener, Ontario, got her hands on me and gave me a crash course on how to apply makeup. And guess what?

I loved it.

My first purchase was from her! She put together a Mirabella pallet for me, based on my skin tone and they way I expected to use it. This is what it turned out to look like.

Please don’t ask me what the colors are! Lisa put them together for me, and I never thought to ask. This makeup is on the more expensive side, and is the most expensive product I own. The eyeshadows blend beautifully, and can be applied with a light hand to look more sheer or be built up. I do find I have some minor creasing when I don’t use a primer, but that’s to be expected I guess.

After that, I turned to YouTube and have amassed quite the collection of products, more of which I’ll blog about later.

In the meantime, what makeup products do you like? What do you dislike? Because I’m still a relative newbie when it comes to makeup and need some direction!

  1. Whatever those colors are, they are pretty! Glad it’s worked out well for you. I kinda started at the same place-wasn’t much into makeup, but something sparked eventually and now I just love it all 🙂

    1. Thanks for your comment.

I really should ask Lisa what they were. I always liked the idea of makeup but never really knew how to put it on. Now that I know how, there’s no going back!

  2. Hi Lynn,

I am glad you love Mirabella Eye Colour! By looking at your photo, I believe the colors in the palette are…(from left to right) Poppy, Sienna, Vintage, Chenille. FYI…this palette is reusable. Turn the palette over. You can pop the shadow buttons out by using a pin. The shade names will be screened on the bottom of each individual button. These palettes last forever because you can easily refill them.

    1. I should have mentioned that the far right one is a brow powder! Yes, Lisa did mention they were reusable. I’m far more apt to get a new one with new colors before I use all of this one! And I’m sure Lisa has a record of what she gave me. The salon only deals with Mirabella but it was an awesome choice for a first purchase.
