Making Magic with Isadora Montrose

isadora-footer

Hello everyone, I am Isadora Montrose and I am thrilled to be on Lynn Tyler’s blog. Today, I want to share with you part of the process of writing my dragon shifter stories.

Dragon’s Christmas Captive is book 5 in my Lords of the Dragon Islands series.
The first thing I do when I start outlining a new book is to look at what the challenges will be for the characters. No challenges – no story. Then I use that to inject humor into the situation. I describe my stories as spicy romps, because they should not be taken too seriously. But the feelings that lead to the hot HEA – those are the real deal and not funny at all!

In my next dragon shifter romance, Dragon’s Christmas Captive, Elven Princess Alexandra has emerged from 800 years of solitude to search for her mate. The humor in the story comes from the collision between Theo’s twenty-first century world and Lexi’s medieval expectations.

To Lexi technology appears to be some new magic – by turns mysterious and powerful, and yet not as easy to use as her own. But equally, she is bewildered by Theo’s ignorance of things she takes for granted.

Dragon’s Christmas Captive

Dragon shifter Theo Lindorm has been hunting for his Fated Mate for 10 years. Elven princess Lexi has been waiting for her Prince for 1000.

She is prepared to settle for this modern day Viking barbarian, and trade immortality for a home and family. All Theo wants is a soft, sweet Valkyrie and some firelings.

If only Alpha Male Theo would play by Lexi’s ancient rules. But this Naval Officer resists her spells, and retaliates with a sensual enchantment of his own. As her attempts to make Theo love her fail, Lexi finds herself trapped in a mortal body snared by human feelings. How could Fate be so cruel?

Here is an excerpt:

“We haven’t got a chance. I’m sorry, Princess, I truly am. But it’s not even a forlorn hope.”

Alexandra folded her tiny arms across her chest. Her green eyes blazed. “You haven’t even tried,” she complained. “It’s your Quest. What kind of a dragon ignores a Quest?”

Theo leaned back in his armchair, crossed his arms, and stretched his legs out in front of him. He was enjoying himself. She was so indignant, and so cute. Mad as a hatter, of course, but cute as anything. Just being around the princess amused him. How could he convince her? He ambled across to his laptop, booted it up and googled the Gulf of Bothnia.

“What is that?” She was suspicious. She swooped onto the keyboard. Her feet sent the screen into a flurry of changing images. She leapt straight up into the air and hovered, wings beating furiously.

“Um, you can’t stand there, Princess,” he said, trying not to laugh. She perched trembling on his bun, holding on to his dirk to steady herself.

“Is it dragon magic?” Her voice was sharp.

“No. It’s technology.”

“What is this technology? Is it some kind of sorcery?” Her trembling increased.

“If it is, it’s white magic. Nothing to be frightened of.” Theo scrolled to the section of the map that showed Severn Island. He tapped the screen with a ballpoint pen. “This is where we are.” He expanded the map and pointed again. “And this is where your tree grew.”

Alexandra had stopped trembling, but now she began vibrating so hard his little dagger shook with the force of her excitement. “There’s my tree,” she cried. “But you cut it down,” she said more doubtfully.

“This photograph was taken some time ago, it shows the past, Princess, not the present.”

“The Pool of Loki is better,” she informed him grandly. “It shows the past, the present and the future.”

“I’m not familiar with the Pool of Loki,” Theo said dryly. “But this map is the best one I’ve got. Can you show me where the dragon fell from the sky?”

“I don’t know,” Princess Alexandra peered down at the screen. Her voice was faint and buzzed with anxiety. “I think you should look at my map.”

She flew down in front of him and stood beside his laptop. A stick shorter than her trident materialized in her little hand. She held it out to him. Theo did not know how to take it without taking her entire arm too. Eventually he laid his palm flat and she placed the minute object on it.

It began to grow before his eyes. Soon it was clearly a tightly rolled scroll wound around an ivory stick with gilded knobs. In a very little while, it was large enough for him to unroll. He laid it flat on his bed, where it gave new meaning to ‘pop-up’. Princess Alexandra stood on his shoulder and squeaked into his ear, as the forests and hills came into high relief.

“This is hard to understand,” she said, “When it’s so cursed big. I don’t know where I am.” She flew down and began to walk gingerly across the map. Her purple and gold dress seemed to be entirely composed of glitter and floss. Her pale limbs winked through the fabric as she clambered uphill and down.

She stumbled and fell. “I can’t find my grove,” she grumbled, fluttering up to his shoulder again.

Theo put his finger down on the little rise that Princess Alexandra’s trees grew on. “This is it, right here.”

“Are you sure?”

“I’m sure, sweetheart. I’m good at reading maps.”

“And swimming,” she said. “You wear funny orange colored livery when you go beneath the waves to play with your pets. Carrying drink. You can hold your breath for a long time like the whales. I’ve seen you – many times.”

It took Theo a moment to realize that she thought his dive tanks were some kind of beverage carrier. “It’s a whole new world, Princess, that you’ve woken up in.”

“You needn’t sound so happy about it, Lindorm.”

“What are these little ships here?” With the tip of his pen, Theo tapped the map where squared-sailed vessels bobbed in the blue waves.

“Those are the longships that fought with those of the Snorre the Thief, of course.” Her tone suggested he lacked the brains of the village idiot.

“Of course. And where did Snorre fall to his death?”

“There.” Alexandra pointed with her small trident.

Theo saw that a burgundy dragon struggled on the white frilled waves. The waves swallowed Snorre and spat him out – over and over. A gruesome little animation. His pixie was a bloodthirsty little imp.

A bit about Isadora Montrose:

I write hot paranormal romance. I just celebrated my Indie-publishing birthday on Oct 22. I had no idea that this gig would turn out to be mainly about interacting with readers and other authors. Indie-publishing is a way more intimate experience than I ever dreamed, and I love every minute.

My spicy stories involve heroic bear shifters and hunky dragon shifters and the curvy women who are their fated mates. I have three series: Bear Fursuits, The Bachelor Bears of Yakima Ridge, and Lords of the Dragon Islands. Next year, I intend to launch a Phoenix shifter series of military Alpha Males.

Alpha males who are both tender and protective are the heroes I enjoy reading about, so those are the kinds of guys I put in my books. I want my heroines to be someone with whom the reader can identify: bold, brave women facing head-on the challenges thrown at them by a hard world.

I decided to write stories about full figured women who look like the average woman, because I want my readers to identify with my heroines. Their men think they are beautiful and desirable, and love them to bits.

Right now, I am excited about the holidays. Dragon’s Christmas Captive will be published in Shifters Secrets & Surprises, a box set with 3 other hot holiday romances.

And my full length novel Dragon’s Possession about Theo’s cousin Lars will be available for pre-orders on Nov 21.

Read Dragon’s Christmas Captive and the steamy shorts of Lily Thorne, Emma Alisyn and Anna Lowe in Shifters, Secrets and Surprises.

It will also be available in Kindle Unlimited as are all my other books:

Check out my books on my Amazon page.

I love to talk to my readers. Drop me a line, or join my readers group where I post snippets of my WIP and share new covers, etc.

Two sexy shifter doctors need one sexy paramedic as their mate.

Paramedic Zoe Whitaker was set to become engaged until “they” came back. Lycan Werepire Doctors Brent Taylor and Liam Barnes have come back to Saginaw Heights for one reason only — to claim Zoe for their mate.

New York Times Bestselling Author Izzy Szyn was born in May of 2014 when a friend dared her to write. Born and raised in Detroit, Mi. Izzy now lives in Oklahoma City with her furchild Misty, the friendliest Chihuahua/Terrier you will ever meet. Currently works in a call center, where she writes in between phone calls.

Izzy loves to keep in touch with her readers.

Hello! Thank you for this opportunity to talk about my new release Sexual Healing and help my readers get to know me better.)

Tell us about your title featured in this set:

The title is Sexual Healing and it is about 22 pages long (give or take) and I wrote it in ten days. (true story)My computer hard drive crashed 12 days before my book for the boxed set was due to be submitted. Everything that I had written and edited up to that point was lost. I thought I had it saved in one other place but it wasn’t there.

The honest truth was that even though I liked what I had written something didn’t seem right. I couldn’t place my finger on it until I started getting the urge to write another paranormal at the same time. So I decided to go with my gut and turned Sexual Healing from a contemporary setting to a paranormal one.

When I was approached for the boxed set, the first thing that came to my head was Marvin Gaye’s Sexual Healing, so I went with it.

Tell us something about yourself:

I work full-time in a call center, and write in between phone calls. I hope one day to be able to stay home and write full-time.I’m happily single, have a dog named Misty who is a spoiled brat, but loves everyone. I was born and raised in Detroit, but now live in Oklahoma city.

Tell us about your writing process:

I write what the characters tell me to write I’m a complete pantser as far as writing. Outlines make me sweat.

What is your favourite genre to read?
I will read pretty much everything, but my fav is erotic. What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?

In professional life I’d have to say get better with each story. When you are not writing, what do you like to do?

Watch movies, play Kitchen Scramble on fbIf someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?

Hmmm, A friends into lovers story with a paranormal twist. Zoe was friends with Liam Barnes and Brent Taylor in high school, but they left when Liam’s parents found them in bed together the night of their graduation party. They return ten years later and things have changed. Zoe is about to become engaged to Liam’s twin brother Derek and Liam and Brent have changed in more ways than one. They are what i like to call werepires, a combination vampire and shifter and they came back to town to claim their mate. Zoe.

“Hi,” she said to them coming up. “Liam? I didn’t know you’d be here too.”
“When Brent told me that he saw you at the hospital, I couldn’t stay away,” Liam stood up and hugged her. Damn he smelled good. A smoky, woodsy scent that came from him and not some cologne that could be bought. “I’ve missed you.”

“If you’d really missed me then you would’ve contacted me,” Zoe refused to admit that her heart flipped. “When did you get back to town?”

“A few days ago,” Brent replied. “I’m here for a few days as a consultant for a case. But that’s not the only reason why we’re here.”

“Oh,” Zoe’s heart sank. “What’s the other reason?”

“We came for you,” Liam told her.

Hello! Thank you for this opportunity to talk about my new release Saving Reese and help my readers get to know me better:}

Tell us about your title featured in this set:

The title Saving Reese pays homage to a certain sexy neurosurgeon I worked with many years ago. I was a first year nurse on the surgical floor and he (the doctor) had been in a horrible accident and had been assigned to me. While no sparks flew (on his end), meeting and working with him left a lasting impression.Tell us something about yourself:

I was born in Havana, Cuba to a musician father from Puerto Rico and Spanish flamenco dancer, my mother. I was raised in Spain but have called the US home for two decades. I now live in the suburbs of Chicago with my four children. Prior to writing full-time, I was a nurse. The first decade of my career was spent on the medical floors of hospitals. The second and last decade was spent working one-on-one with hospice patients. I loved every minute of it, the ups and downs included, but after a tough divorce (and marriage), I decided it was time to fulfill a lifetime dream and jumped into writing full-time right out the gate. Since then, many lessons have been learned, but I wouldn’t change any of it for the world.Tell us about your writing process:

I write early in the morning before my kids wake up and life’s distractions get in my way. I aim for a minimum word count of 2500 words daily. In order for the words to flow, I have to write with no noise whatsoever. No music. No television. No phone. What is your favorite genre to read?

I’m an eclectic reader. I generally am reading several books at the same time. I always have a writing craft book on hand. What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?

Learning. I love research. For some authors, research is tedious, but I absolutely love it.When you are not writing, what do you like to do?

I spend most days (and nights) with my kids. We talk and laugh all the time while doing any number of things, from binge-watching shows to playing tennis or jogging as a family. If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?

It’s the story of two people who’ve dedicated their lives to helping others at the expense of their love lives, but when their paths cross, the lines between doing what’s right and having everything they never knew they wanted are blurred.Where can readers connect with you?

Website: https://penelopesilvabooks.wordpress.com/Thank you for taking the time to get to know a little about me. I can’t wait to share Saving Reese with you!

“Well, I’ll see you then and, by the way, I’m not afraid of a little spice,” she said before blushing.
“Neither am I,” I answered, hoping she and I were talking about the same thing.

We locked eyes, heat permeating between us. Her eyes radiated with fire as she stepped forward. I opened my arms to welcome her back into my embrace. As our lips touched, all of the day’s worries melted away. She and I were one and nothing else mattered.

I lifted her soft, curvy body and carried her down a small hallway in search of her bedroom.

As I laid her down on the bed, she inhaled, lifting her full breasts up into the air.

“Breathe,” I whispered as I positioned myself over her, hovering until she gave me a sign that she was ready.

She extended her arms, gently massaging the back of my neck with her smooth fingers. “I’ll try to remember that,” she whispered back.

My body writhed with heat and desire as her words sank in. “You’re so beautiful,” I hummed, feeling my body electrified by her gentle, knowing touch.

“Hold me,” she begged.

I wanted to do far more than hold her, but I tempered my desire, steadied my anxious hands until I knew she nor I would be able to hold back any longer. “I’m here. I’ve got you,” I whispered into her luscious locks. “I’m not going anywhere. You’re safe.”

After a moment, I could feel her begin to relax. A gentle kiss on her cheek first, then a kiss on the neck, just below her jaw line. Her shoulders relaxed against the mattress. I moved up to her ear, taking it in between my teeth, tugging until I heard the familiar sound of pleasure escape her lips.

Still hovering over her, the lower half of my body begged to make contact with her, I willed myself to remain in the moment, enjoy the painstaking dance in full-on pleasure. As my hands skimmed down her silken skin, my erection grew larger and more animated, pulsating like the beat of a snare drum.

Melody is looking off the pages for her own Christian Grey until a cocky paramedic redefines what a Dom is supposed to be.Curtis, moving from scene to scene, doesn’t anticipate how Melody will worm her way into his life. Is he ready for a 24/7 relationship?

Angelica Dawson, bestselling Naughty Nights Press author, has been writing for several years and having sex a lot longer than that. Angelica is a wife, mother and environmental consultant. Her love of plants and the outdoors is not diminished by the bloodsucking hoards — mosquitoes and black flies, not vampires. You can sample her wares by dropping by her blog: http://angelicadawson.blogspot.com
I’m so happy to get to meet all of you! I hope you’ll find my inclusion, Cardiac Melody, is music to your heart!

Tell us about your title featured in this set:
Cardiac Melody tells the story of Melody and the Paramedic she falls for after literally falling for him. I liked the play between cardiac, of the heart, and the name, so I mushed them together. I’m Punny like that. When thinking about a medical romance, the BDSM side shouted, hey, how about a newbie that gets hurt and meets someone who can really show her the ropes (pun intended). It came together pretty quickly after that.

Tell us something about yourself:I live in Edmonton, Alberta with my husband and daughter. My day jobs include environmental consultant and lunch supervisor, because, y’know, two jobs wasn’t enough. I do have a Science degree and my specialty is native plants. It’s a good thing school is out in July and August or I’d have no time to think!

Tell us about your writing process:
My stories all revolve around character. The basic plots come most often in the form of She is trying to convince Him of Conflict. As I build those characters, I often meet their friends, relatives, pets and other pressures that build the story. I tend to write chronologically, but when I hit a block, I try to jump ahead and then fill in the gap later.

What is your favorite genre to read?
Audiobooks. I have found my reading very spotty and my concentration isn’t always able to slow down to the pace I read. Audiobooks let my hands and analytical brain do other things so the rest can actually enjoy the story.

What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?
Leaving a better world for my daughter. I try to do that in the way I live, my job, and our family choices. For instance, we only have one car, which my husband needs to get to work (no buses that way). We walk to school and work. It’s one of the reasons I love ebooks. Save the trees and all that.

When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
There are several handicrafts I enjoy. Crochet, needlepoint and recently I’ve taken up adult coloring. It is wonderfully relaxing.

If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?
Fifty fan meets the Paramedic version of an upgraded Christian Grey.

Where can readers connect with you?
I post excerpts several times a week on my blog. You can get all sorts of sneak peeks there. http://angelicadawson.blogspot.com

I’m also on facebook (facebook.com/authorangelicadawson) and twitter (twitter.com/angelicadawson).

Thank you so much for listening to my rambling. I hope you enjoy all the great titles in this set. I know I have enjoyed working with the authors.

Alexa bent over his dining room table, ankles and wrists cuffed to canvas straps that connected them beneath it. Her nails scraped on the smooth surface as he spanked her again.
“You like that, don’t you?” he asked, running his nails down her back and over her heated rear. He teased along her slit, opening her lips slightly, and then spanking again.

“Mmm, yes, sir. Yipe!” She enjoyed his treatment even though the pain was mounting. It was time to make her come again. Using his large headed wand, he stimulated her until she was writhing and then slipped his fingers into her pussy.

So wet and slick, he worried he wasn’t firm enough, that he should add more fingers. Alexa didn’t complain though, grinding into fingers and vibrator, her ass shaking.

“Fuck, fuck, fuck, yes.”

“Yes, sir,” Curtis reminded her.

“Yes, sir,” she said in a drawl that fit her moaning. “Yes, sir. Yes, yes, sir.” She planted her forehead on the table as her core tightened, and her shaking switched to more languorous thrusting. Her cries changed too, from high pitched whining to a low grunt.

Joy wants two things from life–to be the best damn veterinarian possible, and to meet a Dom who can handle her deepest desires. The problem is finding a man who knows the difference between “no” and “make me.”

When D. F. Krieger was banned from writing contests at her school, she immediately set it in her head that she would become a professional writer. Since then, she has thrown away her plans of world domination through books, but she still enjoys writing. By the time she pens her final book with a hand ravaged by age, she hopes to introduce her readers to many alternate worlds, lines of thinking, and captivating characters. When she’s not writing, she can be found surrounded by rescue cats who call her, “Mom” while she’s cross-stitching, crocheting, painting, or playing video games. Her family loves that she plays video games, though they refuse to play first person shooter games against her anymore because she makes an awesome sniper.

You can find D. F. on the East Coast, hiding away from the real world with a gleam in her eye and a plot in her head. She resides with her husband, kids, and pets; who all kindly put up with her random bouts of laughter—over things she can’t explain—and journal collecting fetish.

Wanna keep an eye on D. F. online? You can find her at her website dfkrieger.com where she updates what she’s working on and occasionally posts to a blog.

Konnichiwa, Bon Jour, Aloha, Greetings, Salute…and I’m out of ways I know to say hello. Thank you so much for stopping by to let me prattle on about the awesome box set I’m in. Let me tell you, these authors are rocking it, and I’m not just saying that to toot my own horn. I hope you’ll enjoy my little contribution in this interview as much as I know you’ll enjoy Coming In Hot. Oh, and warning: Don’t drink things while reading this cause liquid out nose equals ouch. Tell us about your title featured in this set:
Joy’s Edge came to me when I was writing the previous book in the series, Hope’s Edge. Joy, a veterinarian, is too spunky not to write about. Her story took me a little longer than I wanted because neither she, nor the hero, were willing to play as nicely as I planned. Then I realized, screw nicely. These two were meant to take off in a clash of sparks. So I let them have their way, and then they got around to really having their way and let’s just say I kinda felt more like a voyeur than an author sometimes.

Tell us something about yourself:
I came from a place of cows and cornfields in central US, and chance, strange love, and a random encounter that involved a Drow and a Rakshasa brought me to the East Coast. I’m now married to the Rakshasa, I didn’t kill him as planned, and I spend my days editing, writing, and raising our kids.

Tell us about your writing process:
There is no process. It’s sheer chaos in its truest form. I open a MS Word document, and then just kinda do the moving of the fingers and BLAM. Stuff and things cause rarrr, I am writer, hear me…type?

What is your favorite genre to read?
I’m actually a lover of many genres so long as the writing style is good. Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Paranormal Romance, Contemporary Romance…even the occasional Horror. But like rarrr scary things horror not ooga booga gore horror.

What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?
What is with this one thing stuff? I can’t choose one unless it’s like Coke versus Mountain Dew. I’m passionate about animal rescue, my family, and video games. Order not indicative of importance. (It’s totally the video games.)

When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
I’m a gamer, hardcore. I live on Final Fantasy 14. LIVE. Liiiiiive. I also do things like cross stitching, crocheting, horseback riding, violin lessons, and say things like “Stop that!” like a freaking parrot to my kids.

If someone who hasn’t read any your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?

Joy explores her edge play fantasy of forced seduction with an ex-military man turned horse rescuer.

Twitter: https://twitter.com/dfkriegerThank you so much for having me, despite my crazy butt and weird responses. I do hope any readers who lasted this long into my interview will give the box set a try because some of those stories (yep, I got a naughty sneak peek at some!) are hot, hot, HOT! And if you snorted liquid out your nose from laughing, I’m not taking blame for that. I totally warned you not to.
I clicked the computer off without responding to that. How was I supposed to? I’d tried to dominate him, flat out. The man had effectively turned the situation around to his advantage. As much as it chaffed, it also thrilled me. Maybe I’d well and truly met my match. But would I give in to his command?     Knowing time was of the essence, I darted to the bathroom and took a shower. The idea of going to dinner wreaking of barn, antiseptic, and cleaning agents didn’t appeal to me. I was sure it wouldn’t exactly incite desire in my dinner date either. Then again, he’d seemed perfectly at home in the barn. Normally, I would have enjoyed my little friend I had stashed in the shower, but I’d set a pretty restrictive time limit so the vibrator would have to wait…again.

“If I don’t get some kind of action before this night is over, by his hand or mine, I’m going to scream,” I grumbled to myself as I towel-dried my hair.

I picked out a cute little sundress that fell just past my knees. A date was a date, after all. When it came time to slip my panties on, I hesitated. Would he really spank me in the parking lot? How would he know if I didn’t wear them? Maybe I should wear them, then decide over dinner whether they stayed after I had a chance to get an idea of his personality.

Yes, that’s what I’d do. I would wear the damn things, and see if he was even worth taking them off for.

Paramedic partners keeping paranormal secrets!

Paramedic partners Jack Grady and Rosie D’Angelo have paranormal secrets. Jack can see ghosts. Rosie can heal with her hands. Despite Rosie’s trust issues and Jack’s bad blonde jokes, the heat between them is undeniable. A killer forces them to reveal their secrets putting their careers and their romance on the line.

Amy Lee Burgess is ruled by two rescued dachshunds, who graciously allow her to write about dragons, wolf shifters, vampires, gargoyles, and the occasional contemporary couple in her free time. When she’s not writing, she’s taking long walks in the woods(with the dogs, of course), exploring her new neighborhood in Apex, North Carolina (also with the dogs), and exploring farmers markets and other places around town (sometimes with the dogs).

Hi! Thank you so much for the opportunity to talk with you and share my story!

Tell us about your title featured in this set:

My novella, Vital Signs, is about two paramedics who keep paranormal secrets from each other and the world. Jack Grady can see ghosts – but only ghosts who need him to find their hidden corpses. He gets into lots of trouble doing this as you can imagine since only he can see the ghosts, and nobody can figure out how he knows where to look.
Rosie D’Angelo can heal with her hands. She’s freaked out several of her former partners with this ability, and now keeps it to herself and thinks she’s a freak. She’s afraid to tell her new partner, Jack, what she can do because she doesn’t want to destroy their growing attraction.

Of course events conspire so that they both need their powers to help save each other!

I was inspired to write about paramedics because I absolutely love the old tv show, Emergency. In fact, Jack Grady and Rosie D’Angelo have the same initials as the paramedic partners in the show – John Gage and Roy Desoto.

This novella took approximately one month to write – one really fun month! I wanted a medical title for this novella and Vital Signs covers it on many levels. When you read the story, I think you will agree.

Tell us something about yourself:
I was born in Manchester, Connecticut, but I’ve moved around a lot since. New Orleans was home for nine years until Hurricane Katrina drove me to Houston, Texas. I stayed in Houston for eleven years until I got laid off from my gas & oil industry day job.

Now I live in Apex, North Carolina. I’m still exploring my new surroundings, but it is incredibly beautiful here. What a shocking change from Houston!

Tell us about your writing process:
I like to plan my novels in my head while I’m trying to fall asleep and just after I wake up. I do most of my best plotting between the sheets! I write every day for at least two hours no matter how unmotivated I might feel. Routine really helps!

What is your favorite genre to read?
Paranormal romance is my current favorite genre at the moment. I also love mystery and horror.

What would you say is the one thing are you most passionate about?
Helping animals! I adopted two dachshunds from Dachshund Rescue of Houston, and they changed my life. I ended up fostering after that, and I have learned so much from these rescue dogs. I can’t wait to find a day job here in North Carolina so I can foster again. You can’t save every dog, but you can save them one at a time!

When you are not writing, what do you like to do?
Playing with my dogs and exploring my new territory. Oh, and reading and watching Netflix.
If someone who hasn’t read any of your books asked you to describe your story in this set (the elevator pitch!) what would you say?
He can see ghosts. She can heal with her hands. They can’t tell anybody, but when a killer threatens to tear them apart, secrets must be exposed!

Thank you for allowing me to share my story with you today. I hope you enjoy all the fantastic stories in Coming in Hot!

Here we go again! A familiar mixture of compassion and resignation flowed over Jack Grady as he watched the ghost stumble onto the edge of the highway. The figure held solid as any mortal man, but every hair on the back of Jack’s neck rose, alerting his special senses. His tingling nerves paired with the fact no one on the scene noticed the blood-drenched man shambling on the road proved this was no mortal.     The ghostly face dripped blood. Scalp lacerations always bled like a bitch. However, more than a head wound plagued this particular ghost. His left arm dangled uselessly, bone protruding through the skin at the wrist. Phantom blood spattered, then evaporated, on the shoulder of the road as he advanced toward Jack. His face twisted as he reached out his good hand imploringly. He dragged one leg, the jeans shredded and bloodied. The gaping wound in his stomach had probably killed him, Jack figured, as he watched him lunge closer. Punctured by something. A tree branch? The edge of the SUV’s door? Something sharp. His mouth moved but no sound emerged. Not close enough yet or Jack wasn’t concentrating hard enough.

The ghost stared at the wreckage of the SUV slewed sideways on the shoulder of the highway. The mashed-up front end steamed. Jack kept a wary eye out for fire even though Rico and Duke were hosing it down with foam. Fire had a way of erupting, especially when mixed with gasoline.

Jack’s partner, Rosie D’Angelo, knelt by the side of a bloody woman, taking her vitals, which she relayed by field phone to Dr. Winchester at Fairhaven Hospital. Jack glanced down the highway. No sign of the ambulance yet. A police cruiser blocked the two-lane highway, holding back traffic. Several people milled about outside their cars, craning their necks trying to see the carnage. Lookiloos. Jack grimaced. Thanks to human nature, people gawked at car crashes, but that didn’t make their morbid fascination any less disgusting.

The second car, the one that had been traveling the wrong way, lay flipped upside down on the opposite side of the highway. Two shaken college kids stood nearby. The girl, wrapped in a blanket, wept as she swayed back and forth. The boy, the driver, was taking a Breathalyzer test administered by one of the police officers. From the way he tried so hard to stay balanced, he wouldn’t pass. Stupid. Who got drunk at four in the afternoon? College kids and alcoholics. Jesus.

“Help me!” The ghost’s voice floated into Jack’s head. The dead people Jack saw all had one thing in common. Their bodies needed finding. Some of them knew they were dead and led him to their final resting places. Others, like Jack suspected of this ghost, needed help to find their bodies so they could accept their deaths. Telling someone they were dead sucked.
